Extra-curricular activities

Your child can choose to join in extra-curricular activities which complement students’ learning and support the academic curriculum. These activities are enriching opportunities for students in K-6 to further their interest in a wonderful range of pathways. These optional activities normally incur a fee.

Chess

Flex your brain muscles and learn chess at lunchtime Chess Club for Stage 2 and 3. Classes are run by an external provider during one term each year.

Choir

Students can volunteer to join the school choir run by our Music Teacher Donna Hoy.

Drama

Explore your interest in performance in our weekly drama club, open to students from Years 3-6. Students enjoy being creative, imaginative and building their confidence, guided by a qualified drama teacher.

Public speaking

Build confidence and public speaking skills at St Kieran’s public speaking club. Students participate in the annual Bear Pit Competition which is a public speaking competition run by our local MP. In this competition, students in Stage 2 and 3 present speeches on designated topics with one winner from each stage being selected to visit Parliament House in Sydney to compete against local students.

Students in Year 6 also take part in Diocesan Public Speaking competition.

Representative sport

Fly the St Kieran’s flag as a representative of the school at the inter-school sport days. These events are offered to students in Years 3-6 throughout the year, the students compete at these Interschool days against other catholic schools in the Northern Beaches. Students prepare for these events during their sports lessons. Throughout the school year the students also take part in organised sessions with professional external coaches for various sports.

Representative sports students between the ages of 8–12 can attend selection trials for the Broken Bay, Polding and State teams which are held for many sports. Student will be made aware of these trials throughout the school year and can attend dependent on the selection criteria for each sport.

Robotics

Each class at St Kieran’s participates in an intensive Robotics workshop where students are introduced to coding to manipulate the movements of robots.

After school classes are offered to students interested in expanding their knowledge of coding. These classes are offered one afternoon per week to different age groups throughout the year.

Lunch Clubs

Students have the option of joining a variety of lunch clubs that take place throughout the week. These range from Library Club, Wow Club, Song Club and occasionally a Garden Club.
