Creative Arts

Creative Arts at St Kieran’s includes Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Drama. The syllabus aims to encourage a life-long appreciation of the arts in your child.

Study in the Creative Arts provides students with strong discipline based knowledge and the fundamental skills, creative expertise, learning mindset and critical capabilities for the future world of work. Creative Arts students experience and develop the complex skills required to create and test ideas, generate creative works with confidence, shape inquiry and critically evaluate and reflect on what they do. Study in the Creative Arts prepares students to be significant producers and informed consumers of culture. (Statement from NESA)

At St Kieran’s we have a specialist creative arts teacher who works with all the students delivering the Music component of the Creative Arts syllabus.  The teacher also works on Dance and Drama when working with Stage 3 students to prepare for the Musical. Students in Stage 2 and 3 can join the optional Song Club which performs at the musical and other events. Drama and Dance is incorporated into the teaching program of all other grades K-4. Grade teachers deliver the Visual Arts component as part of the class teaching program.

St Kieran’s offers students in Years 3-6 the opportunity to join in the Junior or Senior Ensemble. Both ensembles take part in local music festivals and competitions and perform for residents in nearby nursing homes. This is one of the many extra-curricular opportunities students have at St Kieran’s.
