Children’s sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural and made world is fostered through actively engaging with science and technology.

The study of Science and Technology in K–6 fosters a student’s sense of wonder about the world around them and knowledge of how it works. Scientific and technological knowledge is revised, refined and advanced as new evidence arises. Learning about science and technology provides a framework for students to know, understand and make sense of the world. This study encourages students to embrace new concepts and learn to observe, develop testable questions, and test and evaluate ideas to refine their understanding.

In this key learning area, students develop apply skills in:

  • Scientific and technological knowledge practices and dispositions.
  • Developing an understanding of natural phenomena and ways in which science and technologies can be used to create solutions or products that benefit society.
  • To further their knowledge in science, technology and engineering
  • Developing their ability to participate in society as scientifically and technologically literate citizens.
