English is a core element of our curriculum and we aim to foster a love of literature in our children. In English we engage students in critical and reflective practices and give them the skills and knowledge of language to express themselves with purpose and confidence.
By responding to, composing and studying a wide range of texts, students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in the following areas:
- Speaking and listening
- Reading and viewing
- Writing and representing
- Grammar, punctuation and vocabulary
- Handwriting and digital technologies
At St Kieran’s, students are actively encouraged to think in ways that are imaginative, creative, interpretive and critical. They are provided with opportunities to explore language as a way to express themselves and their relationship with others and with their world.
