What a winner!
Congratulations Ivy on a wonderful effort.
Dear Parents

This Sunday marks the second Sunday of Advent with the Gospel theme of “preparing the way”. Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of Jesus at Christmas and incorporates four themes of Faithfulness, Hope, Joy and Love throughout the season. As we move towards Christmas, it is great news that our parish church can now hold up to 280 people in the congregation, especially for Christmas. This also means that our students will be able to celebrate the end of year on the last day as a whole school. More information about end of year arrangements will be made available next week.

Each year, our local member for Manly, James Griffin MP, hosts a Christmas card competition for schools in his electorate. Once again, one of our student’s artworks has been selected, this time featuring on the front cover. The winning artist, Ivy A (Kinder), was invited with her parents to visit James’ office in Manly. A surprise awaited her; upon arrival, the Premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian, presented the award to Ivy! We are so proud and excited for Ivy and her family. Congratulations on such a great achievement!

Thank you to parents who responded to last week’s call for volunteers for 2021. So far, we have received a few expressions of interest however there is room for more! Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience so I encourage you to consider how you may assist next year and complete the attached form. I thank you in advance for considering a role.

Staffing for 2021 has now been finalised. Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Peta Sutherland at the end of the year who will be taking a teaching position at one of our local Catholic schools. We will in turn be welcoming two new teachers to the school. They are Miss Sarah Morgan and Mr Tim Huskins. Mrs Lucy Middleton will remain as PE teacher, taking over from Mrs Narelle Leathem following her recent retirement. The teachers for 2021 are:

Kindergarten Blue: Mrs Jane Hocking
Kindergarten White: Miss Sarah Morgan
Class 1 Blue: Mrs Michelle Leydon and Mrs Karen Hughes
Class 2 Blue: Mr Nick Labone
Class 2 White: Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar
Class 3 Blue: Mrs Karen Sullivan
Class 3 White: Mrs Monique Wright
Class 4 Blue: Mr Tim Huskins
Class 4 White: Mrs Geraldine Watson
Class 5 Blue: Miss Jedda Kassis
Class 5/6: Miss Gabrielle Williams
Class 6 Blue: Mrs Christina Ucchino

All specialist teachers, learning support and office staff will continue in their roles next year.

Mrs Wendy Rose extends her gratitude to the St Kieran’s community following her farewell on Monday and wishes to inform everyone that she survived her knee operation and has already moved into rehabilitation.

Uniform Expectations

With one and a half weeks left of school, we look forward to our community having a period of rest over the holidays so that at the start of 2021, we return refreshed and reinvigorated ready for all the exciting challenges of a new year.

As we look ahead to plan for the coming year, it is an ideal time to ensure that uniform expectations are met.  Wearing the correct school uniform reflects respect and pride in being a part of our fabulous St Kieran’s community.  We’ve noticed that as the year has progressed there are some items of clothing being worn that are not a part of the St Kieran’s uniform.

When we return, we come back to school in our summer uniform and so the following is a reminder of the correct summer uniform.

Summer Uniform:
Girls
  • Girls summer dress
  • White short socks
  • Black leather polishable shoes - no coloured markings of any type
Boys
  • White short-sleeved shirt
  • Navy shorts
  • Navy socks
  • Black leather polishable shoes - no coloured markings of any type

You will note that the shoes for the summer uniform are “black leather polishable shoes” and the socks for girls are white short socks whereas for the boys they are navy socks.

We ask that black, three-quarter length, socks are not to be worn by either girls or boys as they are not a part of our uniform.

Our sports uniform is as follows:
Girls
  • Unisex short sleeve polo shirt with school emblem
  • Unisex long sleeve polo shirt with school emblem
  • Navy pleated sports skirt / skort  or unisex shorts
  • Navy dance pants
  • White socks
  • White sandshoes - minimal coloured markings
  • Unisex navy track / jacket / pants
Boys
  • Blue collared T-shirt with school emblem
  • Navy sports shorts
  • White socks
  • White sandshoes - minimal coloured markings
  • Navy tracksuit / jacket / pants
You can note here that the expectation for all students is that sandshoes for the sports uniform are predominantly white.  Minimal coloured markings are allowed and there are a variety of shoes that are mainly white with minimal coloured markings available at sports stores.

Please note that fleuro or brightly coloured sandshoes are not a part of our uniform.  There has been an increasing number of these shoes being worn to school, but they are not a part of our school uniform.  We ask that if you are purchasing new sports shoes for 2021 that you adhere to the school uniform expectations.  The type of sports shoes suitable for school are easily found at the following locations. Enjoy the weekend.

Vinnies Christmas Hampers . . . . . . and volunteering for delivery
A huge thank you to all the families who have contributed to the Vinnie Christmas hampers. The hampers prepared by the school will be delivered to the needy in our local community. St Kieran’s is a most generous community, giving in abundance. Any family who wishes to assist with the delivery of the hampers on Thursday 19 December will need to complete the linked form from St Vincent de Paul and return via e-mail to the school office. I will then contact you with further details.  Thank you for your support of this worthy and hands-on cause.

Yours in Religious Education,
     Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar
