Dear Parents

Today is World Teachers’ Day, a day to remember and thank teachers across our country for the remarkable work they do in preparing our children for a bright future. In what has been an unprecedented year, our teachers and school support staff have all continued to show their professionalism and resilience, striving every day to do their best for our students. By commemorating World Teachers’ Day, we have the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful work of all teachers across our country. I personally would like to thank and acknowledge the amazing work of the St Kieran’s staff for the tireless efforts they have made this year.

An example of our teachers’ amazing efforts was realised this week with the production of Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits. Our Stage 3 students, under the brilliant direction of Miss Williams and Mr Waller performed a magnificent musical, providing many laughs and exposing some amazing talent in our students. From the stagehands right through to individual singers, every student did a fantastic job in presenting a very memorable production. Sadly, families were unable to attend this year so the school has invested in capturing the production with a quality video recording. Our plan is to share this with our school community in the forthcoming weeks where we can hold a virtual presentation evening for everyone. More details to follow.

As with many events this year, organisational decisions need to be made in advance for logistical purposes. As we plan for the end of the year, we will not be going ahead with our annual Christmas carols evening, at least in its current form. We are exploring how we might be able to present an alternative to our school community and will keep you updated in the coming weeks.

Some of the events that will go ahead include Kinder 2021 transition, swimming carnival, surf safety program (Stage 3), water safety (K-1), and the optional tennis and basketball gala days (Stage 3). Once again, parent participation will be very limited. The swimming carnival in Week 7 will be focusing on selection for the Northern Beaches 2021 Swimming Carnival, which means we will not be including modified events for the younger grades.

I ask you to keep in your thoughts and prayers the Kromrych family after the recent death of Beata’s father in Poland.

Congratulations to Tadgh M (Year 6) who was recently selected for the 13 year Division 1 team for Manly United.

Tell Them From Me Survey

A few years ago, some of you may recall, we participated in a school survey (TTFM Tell Them From Me Partners in Learning survey) which was designed for teachers, parents and students in Years 4-6.  This survey was organised by the Diocese and in order to be able to compare data, it is now time for us to take the survey again.

In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using the Tell Them From Me Partners in Learning survey. We understand that, particularly for parents, we have had a number of surveys already this year, but as it is necessary to compare data to the original Tell Them From Me Partners in Learning survey, it would be wonderful if parents could take some time to complete it.

The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.  We value the role of parents and carers within our school community and would greatly appreciate feedback. The information provided will be used to maintain our commitment to working in partnership with parents and carers to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Kieran’s.

Information regarding timeframe and how to access the survey to follow.

Have a lovely weekend

Religious Education

An opportunity to feel hungry
Rice day is an opportunity for students to walk in the shoes of the hungry.  We are not asking students to starve but simply feel hungry for a few hours. Students are under no obligation to participate in Rice day.

Parents can discuss with their children the extent to which they participate. For example: Our Kndy and Y. 1 students may simply replace part of their lunch with rice whilst older students may have a light breakfast, no fruit break or morning tea, only have a cup of rice for lunch then fast until dinner, no snacking.

On Thursday 5 November the canteen is serving a cup of rice for lunch.  Please use the canteen online ordering system QKR!  to order and pay for a cup of rice. Go to 'School Events' - Go Hungry for a day. Orders must be placed before 8.30am. The cost of the cup of rice will be $2 with a dollar from each cup going towards Catholic Mission Australia. Hannah would like to put a call out for rice cookers. Please contact her if you are able to send your labelled rice cooker into school for the day.

Yours in Religious Education
Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar

The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in Week 6 this term. The Book Fair has always been a very popular event but will be run differently this year due to Covid restrictions. The students will complete their wish lists at school then bring them home for parents to pay online. The wish lists are then brought back to school after the payment is made and the goods will be given out. As the Book Fair is a great Scholastic points raiser for the school, we hope that this system continues to be a great way to get these points.

The Book Fair is a great opportunity to stock up on up-to-date books and even assist with Christmas shopping! More details will follow closer to the Book Fair.
