Dear Parents
We’ve had a very productive week at St Kieran’s this week. On Monday we had the Parent Education Session on Literacy which was well attended. It was wonderful to see so many of our parents register for this session and I know that, judging by the questions asked and the discussion during the session, they gained many beneficial insights into current practices in Literacy.
Our ANZAC Day ceremony was respectfully realised by the Civics and Citizenship Team and it was heart-warming to see so many parents in our playground for that occasion.
Our Year 5 class worked with me as Numeracy Co-Ordinator and their class teacher on strategies around problem-solving in Maths. Specifically, the strategies are called Encouraging Persistence Maintaining Challenge (EPMC). It is really inspiring to see students think resourcefully, utilising and further developing their numeracy skills.
I urge all parents to please adhere to our afternoon dismissal procedures. This was mentioned in last week’s newsletter and we have included a reminder about dismissal this week. It is our responsibility to keep all members of our community safe. Thank you for your attention to this.
A reminder that next week we have SCHOOL PHOTOS on Monday 3 May and the expectation is that all students wear their full winter uniform starting on that Monday. Also coming up next week is another parent session. This time the focus is on the benefits of students remaining at the school for Years 5 and 6. A registration form went out earlier this week, please make sure you fill in the form so your place at the session is secured. If you are feeling a little unsure about your child’s primary schooling and are confused by talk of different plans and ideas, come and find out about the “St Kieran’s Advantage”! I look forward to seeing you there.
Enjoy a restful weekend!

Acting Principal

Traffic Reminder for Parents
As noted in last week’s Newsletter please be advised that all parents collecting children after school MUST come into the playground (unless they are using the drive-through)
In order to keep everyone safe please adhere to the following:
Parents are to enter the school grounds via the Gordon Street entrance or the gate near the canteen/parish hall area. Please note children are to be collected from the playground. They are not to be collected from the Gordon Street gate – as was the case when we had “COVID Dismissal” arrangements. Teachers are no longer supervising that area.
On Tuesday afternoon this week we had a rather dangerous situation in our car park where cars were lined up into King Street. The reason this occurred is that many parents arrived very early to line up in the car park and wait for dismissal. Cars were lining up from 2.30 pm and this is what caused the problem on King Street. We have had rangers patrolling this area in the past. Car park dismissal is from 2.50 but we encourage you to stagger your arrival time, so we don’t create a “traffic jam” onto King Street. Teachers supervise car park pick up until 3.10 pm.
