Dear Parents

I warmly welcome you to an exciting term 2 ahead.

I hope you enjoyed a restful and well deserved break with your family and friends over the Holy season of Easter.

We hope with the ease of restrictions around close contacts and isolation it will be easier for all our families and staff, with less disruption and more opportunity to focus on reconnecting as a community to celebrate our faith and be inspired to provide our students with opportunities that support their wellbeing and learning journey to be the best we can be.  I especially look forward to the Family Welcome drinks and gathering on May 20th.  A great way to start is with a party of fun loving people getting to know each other and sharing a good time together.

Our teachers will continue to collect student data through assessment to direct targeted teaching and learning experiences through quality differentiation.  This will ensure students receive focused and explicit learning to meet their learning needs and be extended accordingly.

Next week we look forward to the 11 students from St Paul’s College Manly introducing sport coaching and active play at Miller’s Reserve for our primary students who attend at lunch times.  This is an exciting new initiative and mentoring opportunity between our school and feeder secondary school. We will certainly take photos and communicate to you via Facebook once this program gets underway.  The students are very excited I am sure.

On Tuesday I sent you via Compass a survey link to gather data and feedback from you in a range of areas in school life, but especially around teaching and learning, communication, school initiatives.  I invite and encourage you to take some time to complete the survey.  It will provide me with valuable insight into how best to serve your needs better. https://forms.gle/8XFS5asoJcvrGYVC6

St Kieran’s will be following the NSW Health advice as follows and more fully communicated to you at the start of the term.  The guidelines are linked here, household and close contact guidelines.  The guidelines allow close contacts to attend school with the application of the recommended safety measures.  Close contacts should advise the school that they are close contact and undertake daily RAT testing.  There are no changes to the advice for people who test positive to Covid.

This term I will commence the process of meeting families seeking enrolment in Kindergarten for 2023.  I invite you to complete the enrolment application form to start the process of enrolling at St Kieran’s.

On Tuesday 10 May, we will hold a meeting at 6pm for parents of boys in Years 2, 3 and 4.  Parents of boys in Kinder and Year 1 are also welcome to attend.  The purpose of the meeting is to communicate to you the advantages of boys continuing their enrolment to Year 6 and completing their primary education with us.  The meeting will be held in the Stage 3 Hub.  I look forward to meeting you and hope you prioritise this important meeting.

Financial support is available to any family that may need to seek assistance with school fees.  I am happy to assist you in any way possible so please do not hesitate to contact me.  Please contact the school to discuss confidentially the process of fee assistance.

Please welcome the Hsu family to our school; Danny Year 4 and Lucas Year 1. Also Mrs Anna Jones who replaced Bev Butler.  Anna will be working in the front office as Administration Officer weekly on a Thursday and fortnightly on a Friday.

Wishing you a healthy and productive term ahead.

School Dates

Term

As the term begins, we look ahead to some of the areas our teachers will be working on for Term 2 as part of their continued professional learning. Our staff will work together to explore a wonderful online resource that CSBB has put together for all our systemic schools.  This resource is called Student on a Page and it is a centralised online platform where, for each student, all test results and data relating to academic progress can be found. Centralising this information will make it easier to see progress and identify needs where necessary.

This term also, we will continue to delve into the new K-2 Mathematics Syllabus in order to be prepared for implementation of this syllabus in 2023.  We will also be working on differentiation in the classroom with a focus on questioning.  As explained in a newsletter late last term, the staff will be participating in a webinar with Peter Sullivan which will also enhance the process of differentiation within the classroom.  Another area for further exploration will be using Success Criteria to support student self-editing when writing. This is a key component of our literacy program and one that ensures we develop confident and critical writers.

As always, our focus is our students and their learning.  We look forward to a busy but productive term.

Have a lovely weekend.

Religious Education

He is Risen, Alleluia

We are an Easter people and as such we shift our gaze to focus to the risen Jesus. Students have commenced their Term Two Religious Education and are learning and exploring the stories of the resurrection. Today, as part of their program of learning, Year 6 and Year 3 will lead the school community in a reverent Scripture based liturgy on the Resurrection.  Once again, we thank the students and teachers for preparing and leading such prayerful liturgies during Holy Week and the Easter season, representing the reflecting and acting aspect of our teaching modules.

Year Three Parents

An overview of the Parish Sacramental Program for parents who are new to the program, mainly Year 3 parents, will be held on Tuesday 10 May at 9.30am and Wednesday 11 May at 7.00pm in the church. The Parish program is open to ALL children over the age of 8.  Any child in the school who has not commenced their Sacraments is encouraged to join the Parish Sacramental Program.
The Parish Sacramental Program guides parents and children through the last three Sacraments of Initiation to the Catholic Faith: Confirmation, Reconciliation and First Communion. The program commences in Year 3 with Confirmation and continues in Year 4 with Reconciliation and First Communion. In a parallel program, children at St Kieran’s school study a complementary unit of learning that dig deeper into each of these Sacraments.

If you have any questions about the Parish Sacramental program please email Janette Davidson. If you have any questions about the school’s Sacramental Teaching Program please feel free to speak with me.

Year Four Parents

We are speaking with the parish regarding First Reconciliation dates for the students to be held in school time.
Preparation for First Holy Communion commences next week with information sessions in the church on Tuesday 3 May at  9.30 OR Wednesday 4 May at 7 pm.

Yours in Religious Education
