SCHOOL  NEWS

Religious Education

Liturgically, Term 3 is a busy term for our school. We have celebrated the feast days of St Augustine and St Kieran and we prayed especially for our fathers and grandparents in a Liturgy led by Kindy and Yr 2 respectively. We remembered and prayed for the children who celebrated their First Eucharist, mainly Yr 3 students, completing their Sacraments of Initiation. Whilst on the other hand, Yr 2 commenced their Sacraments with Confirmation. We also celebrated the Feast of the Assumption prepared and led by Yr 4.

Our Yr 6 Mission Team attended the Diocesan Mission Day and all our leadership teams continue to lead us in prayer at our Monday morning assemblies. Thank you to these students who display enthusiasm and responsibility for their leadership roles within the school.

During Term 3 many teachers attended professional learning and faith formation courses designed to deepen their knowledge, understanding and teaching of the Scriptures.

At the conclusion of Term 3, I would like to extend a heartfelt ‘THANK YOU’ to all the musicians, priests of the parish, teachers, parents, children and office staff at both our school and parish offices who have participated in our various community and religious events this term. A special thank you to Miss Channell who stepped into the acting role of Religious Education Coordinator for the first six weeks of term.  Without the work of our community, our celebrations would not be so well prepared, reverent and meaningful.

Christmas Carols

Friday 6 December 6pm
in the School Grounds

Christmas Carols at St Kieran’s was started by, and has been led by, our parent community. At this point we would like to call upon parent musicians and their friends to volunteer to play at this year’s Christmas Carols. Our teachers will prepare the children’s singing for the evening and we are requesting musical parents to play.  If you are able to assist with our carols evening please let the office know and we will put you in contact with like-minded parents.

Yours in Religious Education,
    Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar.
Chess Club Term 4
We have a Chess Club that will be running for Term 4 during lunchtimes every Friday.  The Club was offered to students from Year 2-6 and 20 students took up the offer.  No doubt they will learn many valuable skills as the benefits of playing chess are well recognised.  We look forward to welcoming the chess teacher Lev Aptekar to our school for the nine week period.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the Neville family on the birth of Selena last week.

PARISH NEWS

Catholic Faith

Would you like to learn more about Catholic Faith and Practice or how to become a Catholic?

A group of mothers with primary school aged children is beginning this journey and you are most welcome to join us on Saturday 19 October between 10.30am and 2.30pm in the Parish Centre. Please contact Janette on 0408 866 521 or sacraments@northharbourcatholic.org.au  if you would like more information.

CATECHIST OPPORTUNITY
Do you realise that you have the qualities to become a Catechist?
We are looking for volunteers who are generous, kind, loving and have a desire to teach children about God’s love in our local Public Primary Schools.
  • A manual and workbooks are provided to take the thinking out of it for you.
  • The lessons are easy to follow and you can literally read from the teaching manual.
  • The weekly commitment consists of 30 mins teaching time plus 30 mins prep/driving time.
  • The experiences that you can provide for these children will stay with them for life and the rewards for Catechists are great!
If once a week is too much of a commitment, you are welcome to team up with a friend or two and teach every couple of weeks instead. Or, you can teach together- whatever works!
If you feel that this is something you would like to be involved in or would simply like more information, please contact our Catechist Coordinator Ursula Halloway on 0423 595 204 or email catechist@northharbourcatholic.org.au  (no obligations).
Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon!
