Dear Parents

The School Advisory Council (SAC) met earlier this week with a focus on how to re-engage our parent community during this time of parent isolation. While parents are unable to be on the school premises, there is a sense of disconnection between school and home. Even though this is temporary, it still has an affect on our school community. Remember, the teachers are only a phone call or an email away so if you have any queries or concerns, I encourage you to make contact with the class teacher. Alternatively, I am always willing to meet with any parent who may wish to discuss anything that maybe of concern.

We are hoping that Term 3 will see a return to parents being back on school property and the resumption of many opportunities for our students including a modified athletics carnival, sporting clinics, gala days and various groups such as band and science. The P&F meeting in Term 1 began with a meeting of a group of parents who were planning the big social event for the year. Unfortunately, this was unable to go ahead for obvious reasons but there is a deep desire for a social gathering to occur once we are able to do so. This is a priority for the P&F and the SAC as we move into the second half of the year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an enormous impact on all our lives in a variety of ways. Many of our families may be experiencing financial hardship as a result. If this is the case, I would ask that you contact the school office to have a confidential discussion with myself or to refer to the Fee Relief During COVID-19 information on the school website.

Until restrictions for parents are relaxed, we will continue with the dismissal of students from 2.40pm for Blue and Green colour houses followed by the 2.55pm dismissal for Red and Yellow. Thank you to all our parents and grandparents for your assistance with this arrangement. It is working smoothly for the students who are generally in the right place at the right time.

A reminder that if you are interested in becoming a member of the North Harbour Parish Pastoral Council, refer to the Parish Bulletin for more information. I would be happy to provide further information if you are curious.

Welcome to Florence C. (Kindergarten) who started at St Kieran’s this week. We are very happy to have Florence and her family as part of our St Kieran’s community.

God Bless

THIS WEEK'S BIRTHDAYS

Happy Birthday to the following students who celebrate a birthday this week.

From the Assistant Principal

Learning Support

We held our Learning Team Meetings today with the teachers.  This is when teachers meet with me, as Learning Support Teacher, to identify and monitor the learning needs of students.  We look closely at data and plan adjustments and programs that can support the learning, whether it be assistance to access the curriculum more effectively or extension to further challenge learning needs.

We work collaboratively to ensure that learning needs are successfully met and although this year has been extraordinary in many ways, we are still very focused on the analysis of data and individual student progress.  This is something the teachers have been working on during these past few weeks as schooling returns to normal.

Many of the adjustments teachers make for students can often be planned for and worked on as part of the class program.  Teachers are highly capable of differentiating within the class context.  Some of the adjustments are made via a Learning Plan and some 1:1 or small groupwork with the Learning Support Assistant or with the Learning Support Teacher.  If your child has been identified to receive adjustments with either the Learning Support Assistant or with the Learning Support Teacher, you will receive notification of this early in Term 3.

Have a lovely weekend.

Maths in Year 3

Year 3 have been busy learning about Chance and Probability in Maths. The students used a variety of Maths equipment to conduct chance experiments where they had to identify and describe possible outcomes. Working in groups the students thoroughly enjoyed the testing process!

School Readiness - Home based learning resources for Pre-schoolers

If your 4 or 5-year-old has been unable to attend preschool over the last couple of months, you may be concerned that they are missing out on developing some of the key skills needed to start school. Starting kindergarten is a new adventure for you and your child.  It is important that they are excited and proud to walk through the classroom door, ready to take their place in the ‘big kids’ school.

The Catholic Schools Office of Broken Bay has developed a range of resources featuring some helpful tips to assist you in preparing your child at home for kindergarten. Our Getting Ready booklet outlines a range of learning tools, each supported by an educational video, that will assist in helping to develop the necessary skills in your child to ensure a successful start to their schooling. To see our school readiness video tools please click here.

To receive your FREE getting ready bag including booklet and other fun activities please contact our school office to arrange for collection.

A Request from The Parish

CATECHISTS NEEDED
Dear Parents,

Every week, some of our Parishioners teach Catholic Religion classes for 30 minutes in our local Public Schools. During the Coronavirus outbreak, these classes have been on hold, however, we have just been informed that classes will resume again sometime in Term 3.

As some of our Catechists fit into the vulnerable group regarding Coronavirus, we are asking for some of the parents of our school children to step in for the rest of the year in support of our vulnerable parishioners.

We are hoping that you will take over their classes for Term 3 and half of Term 4 so that they can stay at home and wait to see what happens regarding the virus. The class time goes very quickly, a manual is provided and you can literally read from the lesson notes. All students have workbooks.

Our older parishioners have done so much for us in this parish over the years. They have literally built fences, planted beautiful gardens, fed needy people, welcomed new members, taken their grandchildren to Playgroup, attended school masses, provided food on so many occasions, been part of many ministries and so on.
Please consider looking after our vulnerable Parishioners at this time if you can.

If you would like to have chat about it (absolutely no obligations), please contact Ursula Halloway on 0423 595 204 or email catechist@northharbourcatholic.org.au
Thanks everyone😊
