Looking at Term 1
We are nearing the end of Term 1 and looking back at the past nine weeks we can already see that so much has been achieved this term. Our students have settled into their daily routines and are being supported in their learning. Teachers have focused on finding out about their students and identifying their exact “point of need” in learning. This is so successful differentiation can occur in the teaching and learning programs in order to ensure all students make progress.
This week has seen the students in Years 3 and 5 participate in a “practice” Naplan test, in order to be prepared for the Naplan Test that will occur in Term 2. Throughout this term, we have also had some classes participate in the Robotics Program. The Robotics Program involves students designing, constructing and operating “robots”. It is an interdisciplinary branch of computer science and engineering. This term, Years 3-6 participated in the program with other grades to follow for Term 2.
During Term 1 the teachers have continued to participate in the 10 hours of Professional Learning which needs to be completed each term. This term the focus for Professional Learning has been –
- Revisiting the Creative Arts Syllabus.
- Data Analysis.
A continuation of familiarisation with the English and Maths Curriculums which are new Curriculums due to be implemented in 2023.
The staff has participated in professional learning about the new Religious Education Curriculum. St Kieran’s is a pilot school for the new RE Curriculum. This program is a Montessori style play based way of exploring the Gospels and applying the stories and messages of the Gospels to our lives.
Have a lovely weekend
