Dear Parents

Thank you for your valuable time and support in meeting with us over the past few evenings for the Parent Information Zoom meetings.  Your participation was well received by the teachers who put great effort into preparing an informative guide to the class expectations and routines that set your child up for success. A recording of each class presentation has been sent to you to view at your convenience. A positive outcome for your child is achieved through two-way communication.  Do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns. We can address any concern with a solution focus collectively.

We are busy preparing for our School Open Day for prospective families on Tuesday 15 March at 9.15am and 6.30pm.  I appreciate your support if you are available to take a collection of flyers to your local preschool to spread the news and promote this important event or in any other avenues like sport clubs, business etc. Please collect the flyers from the office.

Parent partnership and involvement in school life and decision making is very important to us. It is highly regarded and valued in ensuring the strong connection and relationship we have to serve our students and place the school community at the front and centre of everything we do. With this in mind, I hope to see you at our first P&F Term 1 meeting in the Library on Monday 7 March commencing at 7pm.  An agenda will be sent to you the week leading up to the meeting.

Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
The following information relates to the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD). As part of the relevant legislation, if a student is identified as having a disability, then they are to be included on the NCCD. Please read the attached information for Parents, Guardians and Carers regarding background information on the NCCD.

A child may be included in the school’s NCCD collection of data due to a disability.  The word “disability” simply refers to either a medical or learning need that requires extra support or adjustments to be made.  If your child is included in the school’s NCCD, the class teacher will inform you of this at the Parent/Teacher Interviews to be held at the end of this term.

Does my child have a disability?
Your child may be included for a Diagnosed or Imputed Disability.

A diagnosed disability includes one that has been diagnosed by a paediatrician, medical practitioner or other allied health professional (i.e. psychologist, speech pathologist, etc).

An imputed disability is ‘something that someone believes another person has. To impute a disability the school team must have reasonable grounds to make such a judgement.’ (NCCD Website: 2019). Your child’s school will have collected data over a period of time to inform this information. Have a lovely weekend.

Lent
With Lent fast approaching we turn to the customs and traditions of the Catholic Church.  Next Tuesday is Shove Tuesday where traditionally all the flour and yeast in the household was used up before 40 days of fasting. Orders close on Friday for Shrove Tuesday Pancakes served warm for morning tea. Thank you to Hannah and the band of parents preparing this tasty treat on Shrove Tuesday.

A message from Pope Francis
There are many ways to contemplate Lent.  Prayer, fasting and sharing are three ways. But fasting from what?  Pope Francis gives us some suggestions that suggest a change in mindset not just for Lent but for a happy life.

“Do You Want to FAST this Lent?” ~ Pope Francis
Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and trust in God.
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness and fill you heart with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

Attached to today’s newsletter is an appendix  PART 2  -“50 ways to experience Lent”. This handout gives daily examples of ways in which our families can prepare for Easter during the forty days of Lent. Thank you Janette Davidson our Family and Sacramental Minister for preparing this wonderful family-friendly resource.

Yours in Religious Education

Wayside Chapel - Say it with Undies

This Valentine’s day don’t say I love you with chocolate, don’t say it with flowers, say it with undies !

This year the Mission Team is organising a collection for the homeless people of the city.

We are collecting new men’s undies, ladies undies, children’s undies, granny undies to be delivered to the Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross, Sydney. At the Wayside Chapel homeless people can have a clean shower, however, when they get dressed again they have to put on their old undies. YUCK !

We want to change that so that when people have finished their shower they can put on a clean pair of undies. Next week, Week 4, we are collecting new undies. You can leave your donation under the noticeboard or in your classroom and we will collect them.
Thank you for participating in our undies project.

Library News

The Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge runs opens on Monday 28 February and closes on Friday 19 August. All the teachers like to encourage every student to participate in the PRC every year.

Students use existing user names and passwords. Kindergarten and new students will be given a user name and password once the PRC opens and they can be generated.

If your child has already read some of the books from the PRC reading list, please keep a note of these so they can be recorded once the challenge opens.
Please see the list below showing how many books your child needs to read to complete the PRC.

Parent Help – I need parent helpers for covering books. If you would like to continue or start helping in any way in the library, please email the school or fill in the linked form. We use either contact (soft cover books) or plastic (hard cover books).

If you have not contacted or covered books before or would like a refresher, I will hold a very quick session straight after school at a convenient time.
We will send home about a dozen books for covering once or twice a term at most.

Happy borrowing!
     Liz McGuire

Important - Photography/Video Permission

All parents should have received an email via Compass asking for permission to use your child’s photograph/video for school and other purposes. There are two areas where we are seeking your consent.
  1. Consent for your child's photograph/video being used by the school for internal school purposes, such as newsletters, on-site displays and our school's Compass portal.
  2. Consent for your child's photograph/video being used by the school, CSBB office and CSNSW office for promotional, marketing, media and educational purposes. This includes the school website, social media, newspapers etc. I give permission for a photograph/video of my child to be used by the school, CSBB and CSNSW in the agreed publications without acknowledgment, renumeration or compensation.
If you haven't yet completed this form please access it from your Compass notification. You can give or deny consent for both questions. If you do not complete this online questionnaire your child’s photo cannot be used in any publications.
Please email the office if you are having any issues accessing this form.

A big thank-you to our volunteers over the past week:

  • Richard Bartlett
  • Kate Barbalace
  • John McNamara
  • Lisa Rose

We are having issues with some children’s orders being placed in the wrong year group. This is causing a lot of confusion and children thinking that they do not have a lunch order. If you are yet to update your child’s new class, could you please do so.

Any questions please feel free to make contact, on either 0438 433 231 or email me.
