This past week has been one that has highlighted so much of the imaginative spirit and energy that our students have.
Our
Book Week Assembly on Tuesday morning emphasised the students’ ability to use their imagination and it also showed their great passion for reading. Thank you to Liz McGuire for organising the event and to all the students who shared their creativity with us!
The Musical
PANTASTIC was yet another source of great inspiration, both for the students who performed and for all the members of our community who viewed the performance. What a talented group of students! The singing; dancing; acting - all so professional and entertaining. A very special “Thank You” must go to ALL the students who participated as well as the teachers and other students who supported by either making costumes or props for the performance; supervising during the performances or working with the choreography of dances. Of course, Emily Channell and Jordan Waller must be given a special mention. This could not have been as successful without their professional guidance and leadership. Congratulations to all!
A group of eight Stage 3 students went to St Paul’s at Manly today, accompanied by Cara Appleton, where they presented their findings from their
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) Challenge. All Stage 3 students have been working on their challenges since the start of Term 3.
Through this
project, students have learnt about biochar, an incredible substance that was first used by the Aztec civilisation around 500 years ago. This substance improves soil fertility and can be used to amend soils that are depleted of nutrients. The integrated project-based learning approach used by this challenge means that the students have been able to make connections across many areas of their learning, and ultimately deepen their understandings in an authentic context. Well done Stage 3!
As we move towards the end of August, we start to look ahead to 2020; our incoming enrolments for Kindergarten and all our new initiatives for 2020. Currently, we have received 26 letters of acceptance for Kindergarten 2020. At the moment, we are still waiting for formal confirmation from Catholic Schools Office, regarding whether this will in fact comprise two Kindergarten classes or one class. Once this confirmation from CSO comes through at the end of August, we will let our community know.
NAPLAN results will be available for parents of students in Years 3 and 5 in September. Further information about this will be communicated once we know final dates.
Numeracy Parent Education Session
I will be holding a Parent Education Session on Numeracy in Week 9 of this term (September 18
th). This is a wonderful opportunity for all parents to find out exactly what happens in Primary School regarding the teaching and learning of Mathematics. Parents who have attended over the last few years always come away feeling inspired and better equipped to support and understand their child’s development of skills in Numeracy.
Enjoy the weekend and keep warm!
