Dear Parents
Welcome back to the start of another great term of discovery and growth! The students all appear to have had a wonderful holiday over the Easter break as they’ve returned looking rested and ready for more learning. We’ve started the term smoothly and look forward to all the great achievements and successes that a new term brings.
We completed our series of Liturgies for Holy Week with Year 6 presenting the Easter Liturgy on Monday afternoon in the playground. A joyful and respectful reflection on the meaning of Easter. Thank you to students and teachers who organised the Liturgy.
Michael Gallagher is on Long Service Leave until May 3rd and so I am stepping into that role until his return.
This week you should have received a Compass Newsfeed (or a SeeSaw notification for Kindergarten) from your child’s class teacher outlining the learning emphasis and major events for Term 2. This should give you an idea of what your child will be focusing on for the term and so enabling you to better support your child’s learning.
Next Monday we are holding our first Parent Education Session in over a year! It is wonderful to be able to invite parents back into the school so they too can be a real part of our learning community. The Education Session will be on Literacy and focuses on the involvement of parents of students in Kindergarten and Year 1. The presentation will be run by Jane Hocking; Kindergarten teacher and Literacy Co-Ordinator. I look forward to seeing many of you there.
Later in the term, our Kindergarten students and teachers will be participating in a data-gathering initiative titled AEDC. The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is a population-based measure of how children in Australia have developed by the time they start their first year of full-time school.
We will be holding a brief Anzac Day ceremony at our Monday morning assembly to commemorate Anzac Day which is this Sunday. If any parents are able to join us for that – they are most welcome!
We are holding enrolment meetings this term for our Kindergarten cohort 2022. Playgroups for pre-schoolers are being held in the hall. Click here for details.
Enjoy this wonderful weather we’ve been having lately and have a lovely weekend!

Acting Principal

Attention - Afternoon Dismissal Arrangements and Parents Using Carpark Pick Up!
We have had some incidents of late in the afternoon drive-through pick up that have resulted in potentially dangerous occurrences and need to ensure that these incidences do not occur.
All parents whether picking up children from the playground or whether using drive-through pick up are urged to follow the rules around both dismissal arrangements. This is so we can ensure the safety of all children in our school.
If you use the Carpark Pick Up please read through the St Kieran’s Carpark Guidelines and adhere to the recommendations. A very important point to remember is that all users of the Carpark Pick Up must indicate left (exiting onto Condamine) or right (exiting onto King) once their child/ren is in the car.
If you collect your child from the playground there are a few expectations, we ask that you observe:
- Enter the school grounds only via the Gordon Street entrance or the gate near the canteen/parish hall area. Please note children are to be collected from the playground. They are not to be collected from the Gordon Street gate – as was the case when we had “COVIDDismissal” arrangements. Teachers are no longer supervising that area
- If you are leaving via the gate near the canteen/parish hall area, please be mindful that many cars will be driving through that area to exit onto Condamine Street. Please ensure social chat is undertaken in the school grounds, then vigilance adopted when leaving through the gates.
- Watch carefully and follow instructions given by the parent volunteer holding the STOP/GO sign. You must cross in the designated areas and we strongly advise that you keep toddlers close to you when walking out of the gate to your car. It would be wise to actually hold their hand when walking if possible.
- See map
Thank you for your attention to this.

Religious Education
He is Risen, Alleluia
Students have commenced their Term 2 Religious Education learning the stories of the Resurrection. Last Monday, as part of their program of learning, Year 6 lead the school community in a reverent liturgy based on the Resurrection. Once again, I would like to thank the students and teachers for preparing and leading such prayerful liturgies during Holy Week and the Easter season.
The Liturgies we have shared represent the reflecting and acting aspect of our teaching modules.
The Parish Sacramental Program guides parents and children through the last three sacraments of initiation to the Catholic Faith: Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist. The program commences in Year 3 with Confirmation and continues in Year 4 with Reconciliation and Eucharist. In a parallel program, children at St Kieran’s school study a complementary unit of learning that dig deeper into each of these Sacraments. Further information regarding the Sacramental Program can be found in the Parish section of this newsletter.
Yours in Religious Education,
Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar
