Dear Families

The Feast of St Kieran continued today with the annual Fun Day organised by of our students. There were many activities on the playground for the students to enjoy and in turn raise money for Catholic Missions in Term 4. Thank you to the Mission Leaders and teachers for your fantastic work.

As the saying goes, “when it rains, it pours!” Well, we had both this week! Along with the heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, we unfortunately experienced a burst water pipe that resulted in Room 4 (1S) being flooded. Repair work commenced immediately but due to the damage, carpet will need to be replaced. Meanwhile, 1S has been working in the Kieran Room. We hope to return to the classroom at the start of Term 4.

Many thanks to the Miss Bombardieri and the Kindergarten teachers who led the Numeracy Information evening on Wednesday. Parent information evenings are a valuable way to hear what is happening in the classroom and how you can assist at home when needed.

Yesterday we welcomed our new Kindergarten students for 2020 with a beautiful liturgy led by Year 5 and our current Kindergarten students. There were several comments made by the parents of the new students on the great sense of welcome they felt from the St Kieran’s community.

Kindergarten Family Mass
Over the weekend our Kindergarten families participated in the Parish Sunday Family Mass.  Thank you to the students and their teachers for their preparation for this Mass and their parents for their wonderful hospitality in providing morning tea.

St Kieran’s Day Fair
Today our students enjoyed our St Kieran’s Day Children’s Fair. A fair prepared for the students of St Kieran’s and run by the students of St Kieran’s. There was a joyful vibe in the playground as students both ran their activities and participated in the fair. Our students are to be congratulated for the respectful and positive manner in which they joined in all the activities. Thank you to the teachers for all their preparation. Thanks also to our parent body for your donations, in one form or another, to the success of the fair.

Lessons in Mission and CARITAS
Next term all classes will be learning about the ‘Mission of the Church’ and the part they, as children, can play in bringing God’s love to all people. Part of the Mission modules is to explore Catholic agencies which support people around the world. Monies raised from the St Kieran’s Day Fair will be donated to just such an agency, CARITAS Australia.  https://www.caritas.org.au/  Students will be able to see where and how their donation is spent in the real world.

Christmas Carols

Friday 6 December 6pm
in the School Grounds

The music for the Christmas Carols at St Kieran’s was started by, and has been led by, our parent community. At this point we would like to call upon parent musicians and their friends to volunteer to play at this year’s Christmas Carols. Our teachers will prepare the children’s singing for the evening and we are requesting musical parents to play.  If you are able to assist with our carols evening please let the office know and we will put you in contact with like-minded parents.

Yours in Religious Education,
    Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar.

PARISH NEWS

Catholic Faith

Would you like to learn more about Catholic Faith and Practice or how to become a Catholic?

A group of mothers with primary school aged children is beginning this journey and you are most welcome to join us on Saturday 19 October between 10.30am and 2.30pm in the Parish Centre. Please contact Janette on 0408 866 521 or sacraments@northharbourcatholic.org.au  if you would like more information.

CATECHIST OPPORTUNITY
Do you realise that you have the qualities to become a Catechist?
We are looking for volunteers who are generous, kind, loving and have a desire to teach children about God’s love in our local Public Primary Schools.
  • A manual and workbooks are provided to take the thinking out of it for you.
  • The lessons are easy to follow and you can literally read from the teaching manual.
  • The weekly commitment consists of 30 mins teaching time plus 30 mins prep/driving time.
  • The experiences that you can provide for these children will stay with them for life and the rewards for Catechists are great!
If once a week is too much of a commitment, you are welcome to team up with a friend or two and teach every couple of weeks instead. Or, you can teach together- whatever works!
If you feel that this is something you would like to be involved in or would simply like more information, please contact our Catechist Coordinator Ursula Halloway on 0423 595 204 or email catechist@northharbourcatholic.org.au  (no obligations).
Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon!
