Dear Parents

The week has been an exciting one for St Kieran’s. Sunday evening was the first Youth Mass which was well attended by young members of the parish and schools. On Monday evening we held our first Parents and Friends meeting in over a year, followed by our first Open Day on Tuesday in two years! These events all indicate a return to gathering again as a school community.

I am pleased to announce that we are planning a St Kieran’s Cocktail Evening on 28 May at the Manly Pavilion. Save the date! Details to follow in the next week or so.

Parents and Friends AGM (Annual General Meeting)

Between those present at the meeting and others who joined through Zoom, the AGM was well attended. I would like to thank the outgoing P&F executive who have done a wonderful job through what were particularly challenging times in 2020. Thank you to Susanne Foale (President), Dana Reddy (Vice-President), Rachel Giunti (Secretary), Cath Gallery (Treasurer) and Gabi Selwyn (Class Parent Coordinator). Your contribution to the school community over the last two years has been very much appreciated. The new P&F team will be announced as soon as positions have been confirmed. In the meantime, our focus will be on creating opportunities to gather as community and begin considering fundraising ideas for the year, where possible.

Open Day

We had great support for our two Open Day sessions on Tuesday. Many thanks to all our volunteers, teachers, past students, and the Year 6 leaders, for being so enthusiastically supportive of the day. Another Open Day will take place on Monday 7 June. In the meantime, personalised tours are available for any family interested in St Kieran’s as a school for 2022. If you are enrolling a child for 2022, you will need to lodge your enrolment application as soon as possible.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Interviews begin next week. By now you have hopefully booked in for your interview(s) and have thought about what you would like to discuss with the class teacher. A reminder that the three-way interviews are for Year 2 students upwards. Please contact the school asap if you cannot make your interview.

Car Park

Council rangers having been patrolling school zones in the afternoon around the local area, fining drivers parking illegally or blocking access points. King St has become a problematic area between 2.50 and 3pm. I strongly recommend arriving for pick up after 3pm, or even parking and walking into the school.

Playgroup

Our second playgroup session is planned for next Friday 26 March. We are looking forward to welcoming new families in the Parish Hall.

Holy Week Liturgies
It has been lovely to welcome our parents back into the playground. To see children and parents greet each other in the afternoon is delightful and something we appreciate more.

With Easter almost upon us we have tried to schedule the majority of our Holy Week Liturgies in the morning following drop off OR in the afternoon just before pick up. If parents are in the playground and their child’s class is presenting a liturgy they wish to stay and join us in prayer.

  • Monday 29 March:  2.15pm Kinder - Palm Sunday in the assembly area
  • Tuesday 30 March: 2.15pm Year 1 - Last Supper in the assembly area
  • Wednesday 31 March: 9am Year 4 - Washing of the Feet in the assembly area
  • Thursday 1 April:  9am Year 2 - Garden of Gethsemane in the assembly area facing the deck area
  • Thursday 1 April: 11.30am Year 5 - Stations of the Cross (selected) in the playground.  Classes called at different intervals to journey the Way of the Cross.  In the hall if raining
  • Monday 19 April (Term 2):  2.30pm Year 6 - Resurrection in the assembly area

Parents who may wish to attend their child’s class liturgy whilst they are in the school playground for drop off or pick up are requested to maintain a safe distance of 1.5 metres.

St Vincent de Paul Volunteer Request
The St Vincent de Paul Society is an international lay Catholic organisation, conducting many enterprises including a group within our parish which visits needy people in our local area. We make home visits daily offering practical help including food vouchers, clothing, furniture and assistance with larger purchases and sometimes just friendly advice.  The concept is to offer a “hand up” and not a “hand out” by encouraging them to take control of their own destiny.  READ MORE

SVDP Hamper Volunteer Request
In the last two years there have been many parents, children and teachers from St Kieran’s School volunteering to deliver Christmas hampers and they have reported that they enjoyed the experience. Some have even indicated that they would like to be more involved in the hamper production process.  READ MORE
