Dear Parents
This week began with the opportunity for students and teachers to join in the first school assembly since March. It was another step in returning to life before lockdown. There was a definite sense of “togetherness”, even though our parent community was absent. We hope as soon as next term we can be together again as a united school community.
In preparation for parents being back on the school premises and gathering for social occasions and celebrations, I have been meeting with representatives of the P&F Association and the School Advisory Council to plan for what we might do to reconnect our community members once more. We will let you know in due course the opportunities that will be planned for when the time is right!
Since the return to school, teachers have been measuring student progress and achievement, while continuing to teach face-to-face. Teachers are using assessment data to write a modified report that will be sent home at the end of Week 2, Term 3. More information on interviews will follow early Term 3.
The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is up for re-election over the next couple of months. The PPC is a broad representation of parish members including school parents, young adults, the school principals and other representatives from our local community. If you are interested in finding out more or even nominating for a position, contact the school office or refer to the parish bulletin for more information.
A reminder that while parents are unable to enter the school premises, pick up procedures continue to be the drive-through using the King Street car park or pedestrian pick up at the Gordon Street gate. Pedestrian pick-ups in the car park are too dangerous with the current increased car traffic.
Congratulations to Miss Wright (Year 3 W) who graduated with a Bachelor of Education in April from the Australian Catholic University. Unfortunately, all graduation ceremonies were cancelled however, the St Kieran’s staff gave Monique her own special award ceremony at school. Congratulations Monique on your wonderful achievement and we wish you great success in your future teaching vocation.
God Bless
Michael Gallagher
Principal

School Readiness - Home based learning resources for Pre-schoolers
If your 4 or 5-year-old has been unable to attend preschool over the last couple of months, you may be concerned that they are missing out on developing some of the key skills needed to start school. Starting kindergarten is a new adventure for you and your child. It is important that they are excited and proud to walk through the classroom door, ready to take their place in the ‘big kids’ school.
The Catholic Schools Office of Broken Bay has developed a range of resources featuring some helpful tips to assist you in preparing your child at home for kindergarten. Our Getting Ready booklet outlines a range of learning tools, each supported by an educational video, that will assist in helping to develop the necessary skills in your child to ensure a successful start to their schooling. To see our school readiness video tools please click here.
To receive your FREE getting ready bag including booklet and other fun activities please contact our school office to arrange for collection.

Religious Education
Patience
As COVID restrictions are relaxed we are slowly regaining the rhythm and flow of the school year. When getting back to ‘normal’ cannot come quick enough let us remember patience.
Patience is not about doing nothing. Rather patience is about constantly doing all you can but being patient with the results.
The virtue of patience helps us to accept those things that are outside our control and to keep faith in God, our protector. We may experience troubles in our lives, but we know that God is there to comfort and protect us. Sometimes things happen that we cannot understand or control and our faith in God is tested. Like Jesus, we can pray that the trouble will pass and at the same time we also ask for strength to accept God’s will.
So Let us pray:
For those who are troubled, that they may bear their suffering with patience.
For ourselves, that we may always trust in God and find the strength to be patient.
Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar
Religious Education Coordinator.

Veggie Garden at St Kieran's
Did you know we have a vegetable patch at St Kieran’s?. Mr Gallagher has spent some time with students picking herbs and vegetables so they can be enjoyed fresh at home.
At the moment we have rocket, rosemary, Chinese broccoli, tomatoes, strawberries and a variety of lettuce types.
Thank you to Rhiany Tanner (mother of Makayla) who has been busily tending to our garden behind the scenes; planting, watering, fertilising and pruning.

A Request from The Parish
CATECHISTS NEEDED
Dear Parents,
Every week, some of our Parishioners teach Catholic Religion classes for 30 minutes in our local Public Schools. During the Coronavirus outbreak, these classes have been on hold, however, we have just been informed that classes will resume again sometime in Term 3.
As some of our Catechists fit into the vulnerable group regarding Coronavirus, we are asking for some of the parents of our school children to step in for the rest of the year in support of our vulnerable parishioners.
We are hoping that you will take over their classes for Term 3 and half of Term 4 so that they can stay at home and wait to see what happens regarding the virus. The class time goes very quickly, a manual is provided and you can literally read from the lesson notes. All students have workbooks.
Our older parishioners have done so much for us in this parish over the years. They have literally built fences, planted beautiful gardens, fed needy people, welcomed new members, taken their grandchildren to Playgroup, attended school masses, provided food on so many occasions, been part of many ministries and so on.
Please consider looking after our vulnerable Parishioners at this time if you can.
If you would like to have chat about it (absolutely no obligations), please contact Ursula Halloway on 0423 595 204 or email catechist@northharbourcatholic.org.au
Thanks everyone | | |
