Dear Parents

Lent began this week with Ash Wednesday Mass. We are encouraged to follow the three practices of Fasting, Prayer and Almsgiving during the Lenten season and in this era of consumerism and digital media, Pope Francis offers the following advice: “Fasting involves being freed from all that weighs us down – like consumerism or an excess of information, whether true or false...” Lent is the opportunity to alter our ways to live a simpler life.

Faith in Our Future

This year marks a significant milestone in our country's history. As a Church, an education system and for many of us, a product of a Catholic school, we celebrate 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia. The event was launched yesterday and for the next twelve months we will see many events that will commemorate this achievement, some of which will be taking place in our own school and parish. The theme is “Faith in our future”; please click to find out more.

COVID-19 Guidelines

In advice communicated from CSBB this morning, there has been no change to the COVID restrictions put in place from the start of the year. We were hopeful that our Year 3 parents would be able to attend next week’s assembly but unfortunately this is not possible. We are exploring ways that we can record the event and share with you. We will update you next week.

Swimming Carnival Arrangements

The Northern Beaches Cluster Swimming Carnival is on Tuesday 2 March at the Warringah Aquatic Centre. COVID-19 restrictions prevent parents from attending. The information and permission note sent home explains the arrangements for drop off and pick up. ALL students will need to be dropped off at the pool between 8am and 8.15am, with two pick up times of 11am and 1.45pm. Congratulations to those students who were selected following last year’s carnival.

Open Day

Many thanks to those families who have offered to assist in distributing flyers for our first Open Day which will be held on Tuesday 16 March. If you haven't had an opportunity yet to offer your assistance, please complete the Google form that was sent home during the week via Compass. Thank you too for the many reviews received through the Google reviews. More would be welcome!

Class Parents and P&F

A class parent meeting is planned for Monday 1 March after assembly in the school library. It isn't necessary for all class parents to be there but at least one representative from each year group would be appreciated. COVID-safe guidelines will need to be followed. The meeting should last no more than 30 minutes.

Religious Education

Students from Yrs 2 - 6 participated with enthusiasm and reverence at our Ash Wednesday Mass. Year 5 students expressively proclaimed the Scriptures, dramatically depicted the Gospel and led us in the Prayers of the Faithful. Thank you to Father Paul and Ian Woodbury for always making themselves available to preside and assist at our Masses. A huge thank you to Miss Kassis, Miss Williams and Year 5 for their thoughtful preparation and reverent prayerfulness at this Mass.

Thank you to Mrs Janette Davidson, Parish Sacramental Coordinator, who has prepared a list of positive Lenten experiences. The “Nurturing Faith Series” lists a range of simple family-based activities that can fit into everyone’s day.

Project Compassion boxes will be going home with the eldest child in each family today. Should you require additional Project Compassion boxes for your home or workplace place don’t hesitate to ask at the office.

Yours in Religious Education,
     Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar

Italian Club for Stages 2 & 3

Buongiorno a tutti!

I hope you have had an ottimo start to the new year. This year I am happy to announce that we are starting our new Italian Club for students in Stages 2 & 3. We will meet on Thursdays at lunchtime to celebrate all things ‘Italianabulous’! Those who will join will have an opportunity to engage and participate in activities related to theatre, art, craft, history, research, music and much more. If your child would like to join us, ensure they see me next week.

So why Italian? Follow the link and find out what our program here at St Kieran’s involves!

    A presto!

Valentine's Day 2021

Valentine's Day is a day we want to share love with each other... Not with flowers, not with chocolates but with UNDIES!

Each year our school collects undies to give to the homeless of Sydney. We ask everyone to bring in a packet or two of undies (ladies, mens, boys and girls undies).

There are boxes in the foyer that you can put your undies into (clean ones!). These undies are donated to the Wayside Chapel in Sydney.

Valentine's Day… Don't say it with flowers, don't say it with chocolates, say it with UNDIES.
Make sure you bring in the undies by Friday of Week 4!

Many thanks in anticipation of your support.
     The Mission Team.

Library - Plastic Covering

Many thanks to all those parents who have offered to cover books. While I have enough parents to cover soft cover books in contact, I still need parents to cover the hard cover books in plastic. If you are able to help, please contact the School office. I'm happy to give a lesson on how to cover with the plastic. Many thanks, Liz McGuire

Many thanks
