Dear Families

It is hard to believe, but we are almost there for the school year! This will be the last full newsletter this year. Reports will be available later today through the Compass portal. Information on accessing these is included in the newsletter. Students will receive today an envelope with their class for next year as well as a “Christmas Stocking” form with the items needed for 2020. A reminder that the uniform list can be accessed through this link. I ask that you check before purchasing new uniform items for next year.

At this time of the year there are many celebrations taking place in classrooms and in the school community. Last night the Year 6 students celebrated the end of seven years of primary education with a dinner at Long Reef Golf Club. Many of the parents went to great lengths to decorate and organise such a wonderful occasion. Thank you everyone who assisted. Next Monday, the Year 6 students will be celebrating again with the end of school lunch in the parish hall served by our Year 5 students and parents. Later that evening they will take part in the graduation liturgy in the church.

This morning we gathered in the staff room to thank many of our volunteers who assisted throughout the year. By being involved in any way in your child’s school life sends a very strong message that school is an important place for learning and building relationships. Many thanks to all of you for your efforts. I would also like to thank those members of the School Advisory Council and the Parents and Friends Association who have to supported the school during the year.

Sadly we say goodbye to Mrs Jo Nesbitt who is moving on as canteen manager. Thank you Jo for all you have done over the past five years in making the St Kieran’s Canteen a successful and healthy choice for our students. We wish you all the best in your future.

If you are able to make assembly next Monday morning, we will be recognising a “significant volunteer” in our school community with a presentation from the P&F.

I hope you can join us next Wednesday for the End of Year Mass to say goodbye to teachers, students and families that are leaving, and to give thanks for the year. Students may go home after the Mass with their parents however, supervision will be provided until the end of the school day.

I am pleased to announce that Miss Gabrielle Williams will be teaching our Year 5/6 class next year.  Miss Williams is a former student of St Kieran’s and has taught at St Cecilia’s over the past ten years. We look forward to welcoming her to our community in 2020.

Thank you to the teaching staff for your service and dedication throughout the year. We are blessed to have such a strong and professional group of educators. Thank you as well to the office staff for your tireless efforts each and every day.

To all our families, teachers, parish staff and friends, I thank you for your support this year. I wish you all a happy and holy Christmas and New Year and a safe holiday season. I look forward to seeing you in 2020.

SCHOOL  NEWS

Religious Education

This year the weather did not beat us and we were able to enjoy a lovely evening of carol singing.  Thank you to all those who attended and thank you to the students who sang so beautifully.

We also offer thanks to our wonderful Kindy parents who were responsible for crowd control and security on the evening. The decorations looked fantastic and the clean-up was brisk. Thank you also to Santa who joined us on the evening.

Our school community thanks “Tinseltown”, a band made up of ex- students and parents. Thank you to parents Jenny Schofield and Beata Kromrych and to alumni Jack H,  Charlie W, Finnlay H, Elouise W, Josh R, Ashleigh W and Jasmine W and current Yr 6 student Illyra G for sharing their talents and gifts with the school community.

Let’s give thanks for a wonderful year together. Next Wednesday is our last student day of the school year. We will be celebrating our learning in a Thanksgiving and Christmas Mass commencing at midday. All parents and friends are invited to attend our final celebration for the year.

I would like to thank the school community for their support during 2019. Our parent community has supported the many liturgies, celebrations and Masses that add to the rich fabric of our lives. Our school is well supported by the priests of parish. Fr John  OSA, Fr. Dave OSA and Fr. Paul OSA have been on hand to run students through their sacraments and give lessons on scripture. Our priests are ever ready to adapt Masses to suit the season and the children’s age, thank you gentlemen.

Finally, thank you to my colleagues and the students. They have planned, prepared and practised many wonderful celebrations of life and liturgy. I appreciate the wonderful spirit of cooperation and positive ‘can do’ attitude for the many magnificent things we do so well here at St Kieran’s.  I wish you all a peaceful and merry Christmas.

Yours in Religious Education,
Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar

Thank You from the Mission Team

Dear Parents and supporters of the St. Kieran’s School Community,

Once again we are coming to the end of another school year. The time flies past, especially for those of us who are getting old!

The Mission Team: Jordan W, Paria S, Scarlett P, David S, Christian C and the mentor teachers Mr. Kerrie Wetzlar and Mrs Wendy Rose, would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you for your unfailing generosity throughout 2019. Once again, as parents, teachers and students, we have been able to support many causes this year. Hopefully, as adults we have all led by example in showing our children the importance of Mission, through compassion, social justice and non-judgemental generosity.

Just a summary of all the things we have been able to achieve this year: The Valentine’s Day Undies Drive, the Caritas Lenten Appeal, the monthly Vinnies Night Patrol contributions, the visits to the Nursing Home, the Vinnies Winter Appeal, the Vinnies Can Drive, the Winter Sleep-out (Years 5 and 6), the St. Kieran’s Mini Fete, support for the Women’s Refuge at Dee Why and Bear Cottage at Manly and finally the Christmas Hampers. What a generous and supportive community we are. It never ceases to amaze us what is achieved year after year. We do not take this generosity for granted and appreciate that many who give are sometimes doing it tough themselves.

For all the families who have taken the time to deliver goods and hampers when needed, we would also like to extend a big ‘thank you’,  without your support, none of this would be possible.
We would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and hope that your break away from all the demands of school life is happy and relaxing.

God bless you all,
Kerrie Wetzlar and Wendy Rose (on behalf of the Mission Team 2019.)

Semester Two Reports 2019

Our Semester Two Reports for 2019 are available on Compass from today.  This will make it easy for parents to access their child’s report and as your child moves through Primary School, it will be easy to access all the reports from your child’s schooling journey.

We advise all parents to print out reports from the Compass website and keep a copy.
Once your child leaves St Kieran’s, access to the Compass website will cease.
Therefore, as reports are made available on Compass it would be a good idea to download, print and keep a hard copy at home.

Below (or here) are some instructions as to how you can view and download the reports.  Reports this year will be available from Friday 13 December

Enjoy your weekend
