Dear Parents

Dear Parents

It has been a delight to welcome our parents back into the school once again after what is almost a year to the day of restrictions. The joy on parents' faces has been obvious this week, as has the students’ faces as well.

The first of the new St Kieran’s Playgroup took place in the parish hall this morning, another reason for celebrating the return to a more normal community. Thank you once again to Eleanor and Kate for organising and those families who joined in. The next playgroup will take place on Friday 26 March.

Parents and Friends Meeting

The P&F AGM will take place in the library next Monday evening commencing at 6.30pm. COVID-safe guidelines will restrict total numbers to thirty so we are asking that you register via the Google form which will be sent along with the Zoom link via Compass. You will need to sign in via the NSW Services app when you arrive and follow COVID-safe guidelines. The agenda is linked here. I encourage you to attend if you are able to do so.

Open Day

Many thanks to those who have offered to help on Open Day. The more parents we can have onsite to assist, even just to be there to chat with visitors, the better. We have over a dozen volunteers so far. You still have time to complete the Google form before Monday when all volunteers will be contacted about your role on the day.

Afternoon Car Park

Council rangers were on King Street at pick up time on Wednesday following complaints from the public regarding the traffic jams in the afternoon. The rangers assured me that our parents were doing nothing illegal but rather it was cars parked in the “No Stopping” zone that were causing the issue. Their advice was to stagger pick up time, as we have previously advised, and to arrive after 3pm, rather than the first 10 minutes. Car park pick up is supervised between 2.50-3.10pm. Consider arriving in the last 10 minutes.

Parish Youth Mass

I hope many of our families will be able to attend Mass this Sunday evening at 6pm. It promises to be an enjoyable celebration with music from Simon Hyland (understudy for Hugh Jackman in Boy from Oz) and his band. I will be there and look forward to seeing you if you can make it.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held during Weeks 9-10 of this term.  They begin on Monday 22 March and should be completed by Thursday 1 April.  Please note that interviews are 3-way interviews for the students from Years 2 to 6.  Our practice of including students in the process comes from a belief that this is a way of developing self-reflection and ownership of learning in our students – a crucial part of empowering our students.

As with the MAI bookings, parents will be able to book in a time via the Compass portal.  Instructions* for booking were attached to the Compass notification that was communicated with parents yesterday.  READ MORE

Have a lovely weekend.

Religious Education

Earlier this week our student leaders in the Mission Team represented St Kieran’s at a Student School Leaders Day. I would like to thank them for their contribution to the discussion and the exemplary manner in which they represented our school.
Here is their report.

Diocese of Broken Bay Student Leadership Day.

By Addison L, Freya M, Makayla Jand Nicholas H

Student Leadership Day is when six to eight student leaders of each school in our dioceses come together in one room to discuss Catholic Mission in our schools. Due to COVID-19 we were not able to meet physically, however, COVID did not stop us from coming together and representing our school via Zoom. We had special guest speakers join us via Zoom to tell us how they have helped their communities in many different types of ways.

Italian Club

As you may have heard, we have launched our Italian Club and it’s truly started off with an ‘all things Carnevale’ bang! Here’s a little reflection from one of our wonderful participants.....

Italian Club is just a new addition to our lunchtime clubs here at St Kieran’s. Italian Club is where students have the opportunity to embrace their Italian knowledge and show their arts and crafting abilities. This term so far, we have been focusing on making our Carnevale masks, children have truly shown their amazing abilities and creativity! We look forward to taking part in many more activities!

Congratulations

Congratulations to all the students who represented St Kieran's at the Broken Bay Swimming Carnival on Tuesday. We are very proud of their achievements. A special congratulations to Alana R who has qualified for the Polding Carnival at Homebush on Monday 22 March.

The PRC is now open and closes for students on Friday August 20, 2021. Students may use their logins from previous years and Kindergarten students will receive theirs in the next few weeks.

At St Kieran’s we have always strongly encouraged the students to participate in the Challenge to not only foster a love of reading but to develop their reading skills.
You must read a certain number of books to complete the challenge. See the table below:

There is a student site that makes it easier to search for books and enter the books that have been read.
Happy Reading!
