Dear Parents

Many of our Year 3 students have made their Sacrament of Reconciliation this week during school time. Fathers Paul, John and Dave have led the children through the Sacrament in the school library with the support of the teachers. Congratulations to all our students on this special occasion in your faith journey.

This week is Fallow Week, a time where we would normally ease off on homework, meetings and other extras. As it happens, with the return to school and following the stresses of home-based learning, there is no homework, apart from reading, for the remainder of this term. The teachers’ focus remains on providing students with a calm and orderly learning environment while assessing student progress in readiness for reporting.

At this stage, we are planning to send reports home before the end of Week 3 next term, with parent/teacher interviews to follow. The format of these will be finalised once we know what restrictions are in place, but by that time we hope for a choice of a face-to-face or phone interview.

The Catholic Schools Office sent a survey home over a fortnight ago regarding home-based learning experiences, among other questions. The School Advisory Council had discussed the same idea which was then postponed, avoiding a double-up. I do plan however to send home a short survey in the lead up to the parent/teacher interviews. This will be before the end of term. If at this stage you have any issues which you feel you need to discuss, please contact the school office via phone or email.

The CSO has mandated a staff development day on the last day of this term. This has been in the upcoming dates for the last few weeks. All Broken Bay schools will be participating in a virtual meeting led by Bishop Anthony and the Interim Director of Schools, Mr Danny Casey.

Restrictions on assemblies have been lifted which means we will begin morning assembly next Monday but without parents attending. We hope parents are allowed back on to the school premises soon. Thank you again for your cooperation and ongoing support.

God Bless
Michael Gallagher
Principal

Religious Education

CONGRATULATIONS to our Year 3 students who celebrated their First Reconciliation this week. With their teachers, each Year 3 class joined our parish priests in the school Library for this very special celebration of Reconciliation. Prior to the liturgy Mrs Sullivan and Miss Wright revised aspects of The Sacrament of Reconciliation and reviewed the Scripture of ‘The Lost Coin’. Students read the Scripture and participated in a lively homily with Fr John. Once again thank you to Fathers John, Dave and Paul for their gentle and wise manners when leading prayer with our school community.

This Sunday The Church celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi – The Body and Blood of Christ.  Many of us can remember the religious processions of the ‘Blessed Host’  around the streets representing taking Christ to all four corners of the world.

This weekend is a time to reflect on the first Eucharist and the presence of God in our Eucharistic celebrations today.

Year 3 Reconciliation Reflections

Reconciliation means God forgives you for your sins and some bad stuff that you did. Reconciliation was really fun and God forgave me.  After Reconciliation I could tell that God forgave me because my body felt nicer and I felt really good. When I was doing Reconciliation I felt relieved that God had forgiven my sins.
   Stella

Reconciliation meant to me to not lie and to not wander off God's path. Once I had reconciled to God I felt lighter and didn’t have to worry about anything. I felt relaxed, happy and brave.
    Juan

With butterflies swirling in my stomach I was super nervous. I felt so happy once it was done because God forgave me for the wrong stuff I did. To me it felt like getting all of my worries out and feeling better about myself. I can’t believe I actually made my Reconciliation because when I first got up there I didn’t even want to do it, my inner voice was really annoying and scared me a bit, Now I feel so relieved that I told the priest the things that I am sorry for. I felt sorry for the things I did but I am happy that I told someone.  Now my shoulders feel light as a feather and I feel much better.
