Dear Families

Our Year 5 students spent the last two days on Leadership Camp at the Collaroy Centre. I was able to spend time with them yesterday afternoon while they participated in activities such as abseiling, flying fox and big swing. These challenges took many children outside their comfort zone, allowing them to achieve things they never thought possible. The centre staff commented on the way the children presented themselves so politely and on their great behaviour. Congratulations to the children, and thank you to the teachers for giving their time in organising a great experience.

On Tuesday evening, I had the privilege of meeting the fourth bishop of Broken Bay, the Most Reverend Anthony Randazzo. He asked questions about the St Kieran’s community and expressed his desire to visit as soon as possible. He will be officially “installed” as bishop this coming Monday night at the Light of Christ Centre at Waitara.

You may have noticed an absence of a few teachers this week around the school. Apart from camp, some members of staff have been on courses such as A Taste of Honey, a retreat for teachers from across the diocese and the Choice Theory training, the basis of the behaviour management system we use at St Kieran’s.

We welcome our Kindergarten class for 2020 on Monday morning for their third transition session. The children and families will then be joining their Year 5 buddies for Mass on Sunday 17 November.

The new playground is nearing completion with the cubby/shop finished, with the grass surface the only area left for completion. We look forward to opening the space the following week.

Thanks to the parents and grandparents who were able to visit classrooms on Monday morning.

SCHOOL  NEWS

Religious Education

On All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows' Day, hence Halloween, Nov 1st and All Soul’s Day Nov 2nd, we remember those who have died. This may a moment to share memories of those who live now with the risen Lord.

Christian denominations do not view death as an ending rather as the beginning of a life in the Kingdom of God with the risen Jesus, a Kingdom which we seek to bring here on earth. As we pray in the Mass for those no longer with us on earth;
“Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven.”

Because life is changed, not ended, we continue to pray for and remember all those who have gone before us in death. Our prayers for those who have died and their prayers for us are the way we celebrate this relationship.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them,
with your Saints forever, for you are merciful.
Amen.
This week Mrs Hughes and I attended the diocesan ‘Sweeter than Honey” Scripture conference at Baulkham Hills. We were privileged to engage with incredible guest speakers and presenters who are experts in the field of Catholic Education, Scripture and Religious Educational pedagogy. We will be sharing our insights with our colleagues during the term.

Yours in Religious Education,
Mrs Kerrie Wetzlar

Swimming Carnival

Dear Parents,

Please click on this link for permission note for the St Kieran's 2019 Swimming Carnival. Please ensure you complete this form ASAP so that your child can be included in the Swimming Carnival program. If, for any reason, your child will not be able to participate in the carnival, please send an email to the school or a note to your child's teacher informing them of this so that we can ensure they are not included in the program.
Kind regards,
     Emily Channell, Sports Coordinator

The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the library on Tuesday 12 November and Wednesday 13 November (Week 5, Term 4). There will be two opening times: 8.15am-8.45am and 2.45pm-3.30pm. This is a great opportunity to support the school and purchase some wonderful books and goodies. It’s even a chance to do some Christmas shopping.

I will require help on the days that the Book Fair is open.  If you are able to help please return this linked Volunteer Form.

Thank you

Volunteers Needed - Return and Earn

The Year 6 Environment Team has encouraged students at St Kieran’s to recycle their canteen purchases of Moove and Nudie juice containers. These containers are taken to a Return Point to earn a refund of 10c per item. Return Points closest to our school are Coles, Manly Vale; Woolworths, Balgowlah and Westfield, Warringah Mall (behind Aldi). We need volunteers to collect the containers from school on a Friday afternoon to take them to a Return Point. If you can help or would like more information, please see me.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Michelle Leydon
(Year 6 Environment Team Mentor & Year 1 Teacher)
