Year 3 West Head Excursion

LOOKING AHEAD

Dear Families

This week we had our Year 6 students away at a three-day excursion to Canberra.  By all accounts there was a great deal of learning and fun throughout the course of the excursion.  There were some very tired looking students who walked off the bus early on Wednesday evening, but it was obvious they’d had a wonderful time away together.  Thank you to Jedda Kassis, Cara Appleton and Patrick Sheedy for their care of the students on this memorable trip.

On Wednesday we celebrated St Augustine’s feast day with a whole school Mass.  Father Dave Austin provided some thoughtful insights for the students on the qualities of a saint and on what we can learn from St Augustine.  Thank you to all the teachers and students who contributed to this celebration.

Last Sunday we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of our Parish Priest’s ordination.  It was a well-attended and very deserving celebration.  We are very blessed to have Father Dave Austin as our Parish Priest and wish him many more fruitful years of successful leadership and guidance.

Unfortunately, the Father’s Day Liturgy and Breakfast had to be cancelled due to predictions of more rain.  It has been rescheduled for Friday September 6 and the weather predictions for next week are sunny and mild!  We look forward to seeing everyone at that very special celebration for Fathers and Significant Male Figures on September 6th.  A great article on how Fathers can be more engaged in their child’s learning, was put out by the Council of Catholic School Parents and we thought it would be timely to share it with you.  This article can be found here.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parent community and the staff of St Kieran’s for contributing to what has so far, been a very busy term.  Michael Gallagher returns on Monday and in his absence a couple of our staff members have stepped up into different roles.  Kerrie Wetzlar has been Acting Assistant Principal and Emily Channell has been Acting Religious Coordinator.  Both teachers have done an amazing job and have been highly instrumental in the continuation of a “smooth-running” school.  Thank you!

Premier's Reading Challenge

CLOSES TODAY!

CONGRATULATIONS ERICA!

We would like to send out a HUGE congratulations to Erica in Yr 2 who has raised $510 (she doubled her goal of $260) in the Book Bonus! What a fantastic achievement Erica. This has placed her 3rd so far as an individual fundraiser and it also put St Kieran’s in 3rd place in the school’s fundraising.  So, it’s not too late to participate in the Book Bonus in conjunction with the PRC. Students collect sponsors for the books they have read (even if they have finished the challenge) and the money raised from the sponsors goes towards books for our school. Not only that, schools less fortunate than ours also receive books. Please see the link below if you’d like to register your child and seek sponsorship. If every child who participates in the challenge receives a few dollars in sponsorship, this will go a long way in getting books for our school.
